Logo Prototypes
These are examples of logos I created as a design exercise after reading Massimo Vignelli’s The Vignelli Canon.
Double Zero and Other Numbers
Double Zero and Other Numbers is a series of posters in which I create abstract compositions by enlarging two-digit numbers. The posters can be shown in diptychs and triptychs to produce additional variations in abstractions. Inspiration for this project came from the work of On Kawara, Ellsworth Kelly and Cy Twombly.
It’s Not About Time
It’s Not About Time is a series of text-based artworks.
I started writing down phrases and words around 2014 to use for titles for artworks and art shows. Around this time, I came across the work of artists working with text, such as Barbara Krueger, Ed Ruscha, Tracy Emin, Louise Bourgeois, Jenny Holzer and so on, and began to see the potential of using phrases for works on paper. I made a few pieces and showed them to friends, and, with their feedback, slowly reworked them until I had a series.
I began printing the phrases on T-shirts and posters because I love how some Japanese streetwear designers use slogans and single words on bright-colored shirts and sweaters. This was an exciting way of getting the pieces out there, by wearing them with friends and hanging posters up at local art spaces in San Francisco.
Robot Cutouts
Robot Cutouts is a series of colorful abstract posters referencing minimalist paintings, Minecraft skins, Japanese toy robots and Matisse cutouts.
Kasey Trapp
A few posters I created for singer and producer Kasey Trapp.
Design Sketches
These are sketches I made in response to some of my artistic influences, including Matisse, Mike Kelley and Paul Rand.
